Radiator fan on full blast when A/C is on

When I got home yesterday I noticed that the radiator fan on my A3 was running seemingly at full speed when the car had only been driven for 10 to 15 minutes. I left it running and strangely enough the fan was firing every minute or so at full blast, then shutting down. When I turned off the AC compressor, however, it stopped (even if the heating fan is running).
The climate-control diagnostic shows the following code (on channel 1):
"15.3 Air Flow Flap Motor Potentiometer, sporadic open"
Is this something I would be able to fix myself, or am I going to have to take the card to Audi for a costly A/C repair?
Many thanks,
Luis

The fault the is stored is nothing to do with the Rad fan running permintly. This is just showing that the ECU has lost comunication with a motor that controls the inlet flap temorarly. This is common and nothing to worry about as it is only sparadic, to fix it so it dosn't bring up this fault go into
08 AIR CON
04 BASIC SETTINGS
CHANNEL 001
This will then run all of the motors through the air con system back and forth from the limits and keep note of their readings. This should take care of the fault recorded.
The control unit which is mounted just under the battery is the air-con/engine coolant fan ECU, from the fault that you are compaining of I would of thought that this was the problem.
