/rant/ Amazingly engineered car. Still doesn't have a side view mirror that doesn't drip after wash.

Default I usually blast the entire car - especially around the seams and shut lines - before drying.

Makes for far less work and less potential to scratch.

Default The detail guys at work put the chamois over the mirror and lightly smack it back and fourth..

Then hit it with some compressed air.

TT Karl-
In an article that read, it was suggested that after wash/rinse you should drive the car around the block a couple of times (flipping off your jerkhead neighbors who drive Cobalts) and that should "loosen up" that pesky water from the mirrors and door cracks. I actually just toss a microfibre towel in my car and after my next drive I blot dry the excess H2O that seems to hide in the gas cap flapper, side mirrors and my Perrier bottle in the glove box.
Hope that is helpful. Hey anyone here use a clay bar during detailing?

Default Drive around is a good idea. Problem here is that I'd have dried waterspots from the heat.

I use a clay bar two or three times a year. I just did the new A3 a couple of weekends ago. It's an amazing product and can really clean up a host of things.

Hey I want a portable shower feature. Some Goldwings have that.

Default Before I had a compressor, I would wash the car, then start it up

and drive it really fast in a tight circle first one way and then the other. Just a couple of turns, so as to not kick up too much crap on the wet paint. That would tend to dump most of the excess water - and it's fun to boot! :-)

Default Nor does anyone for that matter. I have to admit this is the first

time I've heard anyone gripe about water dripping from the sideview mirrors.

Default Re: That is the most fussy nitpicky thing i've ever heard. Have you heard of a car that has one?

A B5-S4 owner here, looking at trading on an A3. I have owned many cars over the years and I am a fanatic about keeping my cars clean. I have to agree with TT Karl that the Audi's seem worse than other brands with regards to water dripping from the mirrors. I use the Mr. Clean Auto dry system and blow the car off with a compressor, paying particularly close attention to the mirrors and they still drip leaving hard water marks down the side of the car. The Audi's seem to have a gasket around the mirror glass as if to keep water out which ironically I believe to be causing the problem by soaking up the water.
