OK.
But dealer rang me yesterday just before he was due to bring back my car, and said that the noise I had complained of was not engine mountings (my suspicion) but a bent stabiliser bar and he thought the car was unsafe to drive. I shall be going to look at it either today, or more likely Monday. Bummer! I was hoping to get rid of the less than exciting A4 1.8 (non-turbo)which thye have lent me.
Doug Ramage

I went to the dealer to inspect the damage to the underside of my car - stabileser bar bolt had hit something a few weeks ago and had been bent backwards - needs a new wishbone too.
Anyway I queried the VSI point and I was told that it could NOT be activated on my car - another bummer. The computer said Nein. So no Castrol SLX.
Doug Ramage

Your problem sounds more serious now. What can I say, so sad. How long will it take to repair? and how much will this cost? please keep on posting how you get on.
Today, I visited my dealer, too. Unlike you I had some good news. They claim that VSI can be activated on my car (they confirmed it is 2000 spec), but I still can't be sure. My car will be collected this Wednesday for body work repair (it'll take 3 days to repair). Also some additional work is going to be done (detailed report this weekend).

The engineer from the insurance company telephoned me yesterday. He could not be specific about the cause - maybe mounting a kerb or a speed retarder, I have no recollection. Cost of repair will be around £1200. Dealer has had 2 other cars damaged in a similar (but not identical fashion) - so be careful with the underside.
Glad to hear that VSI can be activated on your S3. Are you going to? How much for the oil? My dealer said about £12/litre for SLX.
Doug Ramage

...so expect a detailed post (oil price per liter, underside check etc.) when I collect the car on Wednesday.
VSI won't be activated. I drive on the red line anyway and only do 6000-7000km a year.
