Default Rear Speaker and woofer problem

Hi !!

I have an Audi A3 1.8 2001, and my rear speakers and woofer started to mute, first it was working for a while then stopping. In the last few days i'm getting no sound from then, only form the front speakers. Does anyone had this kind of problem ? Do you know what can cause this, the woofer or the radio ?

Thanks for your help.

Considering the shocking quality of the components they have probably failed. The sub components must have cost all of £4.50.

Default Could it be an amp problem?..

I'm guessing that from what you say that it is possibly something to do with the amplifier as this is what powers the rear speakers and maybe the sub as well.

There is a single amp inside the sub enclosure (bought the size of a *** packet). It powers both the rears and the sub, with all of 25watts.
First thing to check is if the rear amp is turning on. Can you hear anything from the rears if you turn it up really loud?
If there is no background hiss, then the amp isn't getting power. Either from the remote on lead, or via permanent live. If you have a multimeter you should be able to reach the multiplug in front of the sub (in the lefthand side cubbyhole). The connections are the 2 wires at the opposite end of the plug from the bright pink locator pin. With the radio on, you should get 12v on both.
If this is the case then it looks like the amp is blown. I've got a couple of spare original amps you can have, as I have designed and sold a number of sub upgrades for the A3/S3, which replaces the OEM unit & enclosure with a 300w JL Audio 8" sub in an 18mm MDF enclosure, without taking up any boot space. So I have no need for the feeble Audi unit.
It is not the easiest thing to get out though, as you have to remove the rear speaker panel, then the boot lip panel, before you can tackle the boot panel. I have full instructions if you need them. Mail me at andrew.macgregor@hp.com.
Audi will charge an arm & a leg for a replacement, unless it under waranty.
Cheers, Andy

Andy,

Thanks a lot for the answer !!

I cant here anything form the rear speakes or the sub. I'll do the test you sugested to see if the 12V is getting to the sub, if don't, I'm thinking about replacing the sub for a original one, cause i've found some for a good price.

Regards

I've got instructions on how to remove the sub if you need any help. You have to remove quite a few panels.
