Re: Regretfully just cancelled my A3 order....
I just sold my Mazda3s 5-door, fully loaded, to get an A3. Good luck.

AudiA3.net

Sorry but the CAR should have nothing to do with the DEAL...
They're giving away Fords and GMs...I could care less...I wouldn't want one if it came wrapped in a bow on my doorstep. Japanese cars are only slightly more appealing to me, but not much. If the deal or the bottom line price is the most important consideration for YOU, then you definitely did the right thing and I wish you well. If you really wanted, in your heart, the A3, then I'm sorry. I hope, intellectually, you can convince yourself that you did the right thing.
I got a great deal on my A3, but it was a cash sale. I've owned cars costing nearly twice as much and have never been happier.

i hear you, a3 is sooo cool, yet it seems to make so little financial sense...
i mean, i could just keep my '99 civic and save the $30+k -- that's $30k saving!
but i figured, why do i always have to do what makes sense? -- i might as well get myself a treat every once in a while.
so, picking up candy this saturday.

Probably for the best. If you have to lease to afford it, you can't.
America is full of aging baby boomers with nothing saved for retirement. This problem will crush the country in the future. Don't follow them in their foolishness.

Here's another way to look at it:
When you get something that really fits you/lifestyle/personality, you tend to keep it longer. Since a car is a depreciating asset, the longer you keep it without having to inccur major repair costs, the less money you "waste" in acquiring another new depreciating asset. Basically the fewer times you buy a new car, the more money you've saved. So IMHO choosing the right car is critical.

I think I'd get the 9-2x aero over the Mazda, given the current $8k off deal. Same price as the mazd
but you get 2/24k oil changes/service and 4/50k bumper to bumper.
It's basically a tarted up WRX, which is a fantastic car in itself. I'd say it's a no contest 'winner' over the Mazda (a nice car too), although I've driven neither of them.
Worth considering, if you haven't, particularly considering the "GM Employee Discount for Everyone" price break they are giving right now.
