Replace Just Downpipe and Stay Stock Behind the Cat?

I have been thinking of getting a new exhaust. Not for the note but more for the breathability of the system now that I have 'er APR programmed. I just spotted something from a member here where he/she just replaced the downpipe and stayed stock after the cat. What do I NOT gain if I just do the downpipe and no after market after the cat?
Also, for those that may have this config, should I go with APR for 499 or consider AWE metal 200 cell for 700+?
Thanks,
Seed

I would go with the APR. At the time I purchased, APR did not have the adapters for the stock catback available.

Hey Crew,
I thought the consensus was that the 2.5 inch AWE piping was the better choice to not lose torque on the low end?
How come you would rather choose APR?

Keep in mind we're leaving the stock catback on which is ~ 2.5"
A local friend just installed the AWE DP on yesterday at my APR dealer with the SII program. No low end torque loss with the DP + stock downpipe.
APR simply has a nicer finish (polished). Also, the clamps that come with the APR (accuseal) are better than the ones AWE provides. I upgraded my AWE clamps to compensate. The APR DP also comes with a 100 cell cat versus the AWE 200 cell. The only real benefit the AWE provides is that it uses the HJS 200 cell, which is pretty good for emissions. You will probably get a check engine light with the APR unless you have software to compensate. Finally, the APR unit is $250 less, and i've seen it for prices even lower than retail.

you are referring to the APR Stage 2 correct?
So would it be better to go w/ AWE and its HJS 200 cat if I am going to stay at APR Stage 1?

From APR's website: "APR exhaust-specific software is available for free for all APR ECU Upgrade customers."<ul><li><a href="http://www.goapr.com/Audi/products/apr_exhaust_8pa3.html">clicky...</a></li></ul>
