Default S4 to A3 guy and some newbie questions...

<center><img src="http://pictureposter.audiworld.com/1398/siderear.jpg"></center><p>
Hey guys and gals...

I'm new to this forum but have been around for a long long time (check my user ID)... since the a4.org days. I've been reading for a while and thought I'd introduce my self to the crew as I expect to be here while I sort out my new set-up.

So.. I just parted out an 05' S4 and sold it and all the parts on it and I leased an A3 for a minute (2 years).. I love the way the A3 looks and wanted to try something smaller and more nimble. I bought a 2.0t 6MT with sport/premium/open sky/S-line...

I pick the car up tomorrow (Monday) It had to be moved from San Diego to Santa Monica. The following parts have been purchased and are sitting at SPP for install this Saturday:

- Neuspeed RS10s 19x8 (19 llbs)
- Toyo T-1Rs 225/35/19s
- Neuspeed Rear sway bar
- E-code test pipe (edit: ATP test pipe)
- either just neuspeed sport springs or the "pro cup kit" which is the same springs but with Koni FSD shocks and struts
- either the neuspeed flash or the e-code flash.

Questions are these:

+ How much (ballpark) does this car weigh.. open sky + premium with 6MT and a 2.0t motor?

+ Can I make 'close' to 300 crank HP without a big turbo on 91 octane?

+ Unfortunately my car already has the US plate crap on the front so... How do I put it back to the cleaner front look? Do I need to buy a part? Is there any tricks I should know before I start messing with the plastic?

+ anyone have experience with running just neuspeed sport springs? Can the stock shocks handle them? Should I go w/ the pro-cup kit and just change the shocks now? I'd like to avoid the whole coil-over deal as I never expect to track the car and don't want to mess with dampening or ride-height adjustments.

+ Neuspeed flash VS. e-code (REVO) flash?? I know this will open a can of worms but since I'm new to this model I don't mind if you don't.. and don't tell me to do a search. I hate that **** and already have done plenty of searches.

My S4 Avant 6MT made just about 300 WHP (the dyno charts are in my picture poster).. It had a fullback exhaust, REVO flash, PSS9 coil-overs, rear sway bar, HRE C-20s... e-code lights... a kitchen sink blah blah.

Obviously I don't expect my A3 to be faster than the S4 but I figure with a few mods it can be a load of fun and probably more fun in the tight stuff..

TIA for your responses and help...

I'll post some pics of the A3 as soon as it's hooked up!

Default Ecode does not make a testpipe for the A3.

I would also talk to Ecode to see who they recommend for chipping. You would be surprised, given their long-standing relationship with a certain company. APR is the favorite. A member on vortex did a back to back dyno with APR vs REVO SII, and APR had more gains in the powerband. There has also been quite a few 2.0t owners that have switched to APR from other chips with good reason (myself included).

Close to 300 crank? Maybe, depending on how optimistic your dyno is. On 91, I would say that 270-280 would be pushing it.

You need to buy a new filler plate to remove the license plate holder. $80 or so, part # 8P4 807 287 B 1QP

Look at the Koni Sport Kit for suspension. Friend of mine has it on his GLI. For $550, you get quality components at a great price; the shocks alone are $520. There are pics of an A3 with that setup floating around the forum.

Default Weird... here's a link to one?

I spoke to David Sarabi (sp?) on Friday while he was sitting at eurocode tuning's office and he told me about a test pipe they had? He also said close to 300 crank hp with that pipe, stock cat-back and software?

here's a picture of one they sell...<ul><li><a href="http://www.ecodetuning.com/shop/cart.php?m=product_detail&amp;p=1091">ecode test pipe..</a></li></ul>

Default Oh, they don't make that, they just sell it. It is the ATP testpipe.

I would certainly cross off Neuspeed from your list of chips then, since they don't make any provisions for the CEL you'll get by running a testpipe.

Default yea man... no half steppin' for me.

It's really not going to get driven all that much. We take my wife's HSE anytime we go anywhere together (she doesn't like the way I drive my own cars), I have a garage full of motorcycles that I ride whenever the weather is nice and I'm thinking about getting an A8L (or something similar) while I pray for an RS4 Avant to show up stateside...

Everyone thought I was on crack running 19x8.5 (font) and 19x9.5 (rear) on an S4 Avant... but it was perfect for 2 years and that car got 4 compliments to the gallon.

I do not want to start a war about 18s VS 19s... but the little A3 IS going to look real good with the 19s and they weigh less than stock so...? who cares...

Default Ah, that must be what David was talking about.

Yea, he was really good with my S4.. came to my house and sat shot gun with a lap-top plugged in while we did 0-120mph+ passes through this big straight canyon by my house really late at night... tuned the car on the fly real world and that thing ran real good. I ran cat-less DPs on my 04 S4 and he did have the code for no CEL. I think I'll let him chip the car.

Default Man, I've scoped your ride (S4) on other sites and know you put a lot of mods...

on it; AWESOME car.

You already have a pretty impressive list of mods for your A3; one of which I am seriously thinking of adding to my ride. As you can see in my sig, I'm at a solid 270hp (dynoed on a DynoJet)with my current list of mods. I've calculated that I need approx. another $2000 in performance mods to get to a solid 285hp. I still do think 300hp is possible with this engine but would be pushing the envelope with this turbo and fwd.

There is a few other things you will have to do with the added power. First, install the torque arm insert along with the front mount bushings. Second, install one of the diverter valve solutions; either the EuroCode DV solution (available now) or wait for the Forge DV solution (to be released soon). Personally, I'm waiting for the Forge DV to drop so that I can finally put my foot in the 3.

As for chips, I'm a REVO man due mainly to the location of the tuner to where I live. I've said it once and I'll say it again...REVO is some wild sh*t

Oh yea, welcome to the A3 forum and enjoy the ride. Hey, post up some 'teaser' race stories when you get your 3 tight &amp; right ;-)
