I was cruising back from a meeting this morning, and as I passed under the south runways (LAX) on Sepulveda, I see what I first thought was Japanese subcompact of some sort... but there were four rings on its ***. Could it be? I cut through a bit of traffic and got behind him. It was indeed an A3. I didn't get the attention of the driver, but he had a "high-and-tight" haircut, so I'm guessing he was an American soldier who was at one time stationed in Deutschland. Anyway... to tell the truth, I wasn't paticularly impressed with the cosmetics, and I understand exactly why Audi doesn't bring the A3 stateside. It would be difficult to distinguish this car from it's Japanese competitors, (not to mention the other VAG cars in its class), and still make money.

What kind of plates did he have? As I'm in the Army stationed here in Germany I've tried to get info on bringing my A3 to the states. Everyone I've spoken whith has said that mainly due to customs restrictions and crash test standards the A3 cannot be imported to the US. Now some sport and tuning companies can get them imported somehow, but as far as I can find out, shipping an A3 from Germany to the US as a Privately Owned Vehicle is not at this time possible.
