Default Sirius or XM Module Installation

I just read the following page (<a href="http://spaces.msn.com/members/mcdonst1/Blog/cns!1pt6HJLQ8RUTj7GTLFugwSCA!178.entry" target="_blank">click here</a>) that describes how to install the Sirius (or XM) module in my 2006 A3. I was wondering if anybody who had done the install knew if it was absolutely necessary that the "passenger side kick plate"?

I mean, I will do it if the cables are not connected, but I don't see why Audi would have everything set up to just "plug and play" the module and then require that the passanger kick plate be removed.

Everyone who has done the Sirius/XM install, please chime in. Thanks.

Default Its the CAN connection to control the Tuner

Before I hooked up w/ a tech at the dealer, I had the unit, installed it in the boot and when I pressed "SAT" on the stereo, nothing happened... "No SAT Tuner" would come on screen. The same thing you see if you don't have the tuner installed in the boot.

The wire in the kick plate is the CAN connection specifically for the SAT tuner. The entire car is wired up, but they leave that connection taped apart until you have the tuner installed. I am guessing that maybe having the CAN connection connected, but no tuner installed, might "Freak out" the head unit or cause the VAGCOM to throw errors????

The "official Audi" install guide suggests that plugging in the CAN w/o the tuner installed first might cause you to have to unplug everything and start over... Dunno, didn't try.

Default Install Completed

I did the install last week, it took a total of 10 minutes. I removed the kick plate, which was very easy to do, and discovered that my wire was already connected (I should have tried it first). So you might not have to remove the kick plate; after you connect the wires in the trunck test it out. Even if you do its still a piece of cake.
