I have an Audi A3 year 2000. I have a problem regarding the volume button. When I turn off the engine off then back on, Then turn the volume down the volume increases very high. Once readjusted the volume button works fine. But the problem re-occurs when the engine is switched off then back on. Anybody had the same problem?? if so
is it easy to fix?

There should be several options with your stereo including a unique volume adjustment which adjusts volume according to your speed. It might be that it's pre-set on the 'highest setting' for startup.

i'd refer to your manual, it'll be in there somewhere.

Hi Wilfy, I have exactly the same problem on a 2001 concert unit. When I get in to the car first thing in the morning and turn it on, the second I try to adjust the volume either up or down I am nearly deafened! Haven't worked out why it is doing this so if anyone else can help then I would appreciate it as well.

Audi Hq now of this problem but dont seem to want to do anything about it. I might contact which car magazize or top gear and let them know the problems. I am trying to get the e-mail address for audi HQ Germany, but not having much luck. if you know an e- mail address it would be alot of help. Ps we are not alone.

Guys, I understand that this is a known fault. Apparently the Concert stereos have variable volume circuits that increase the volume to counter the level of road noise. When this circuit fails, the problem you describe occurs. The stereo doesn't know how much external noise it has to counter, so it heads to full volume.

Being an MY00, I guess the warranty has expired, but it is worth pursuing anyway given it is a commonly reported fault. Search this thread for other occurrences.

It is a common problem for concert stereos... There are 2 manufacturers for concert stereos - Blaupunkt and Panasonic (Matsuhita Corp). The thing is that Blaupunkt stereos have an internal memory which can handle (i cannot remember the exact figure) a copule of million adjustments... and when you reach that number the memory is flooded and this problem occurs. Audi is completely aware of that problem but seems will do nothing about it.
I think it can be fixed...

I still haven't heard of anyone who has had their stereo repaired - hopefully someone has and will say what was done...?
