Is it a quick burst of the sound or constant?
Does it continue up the rev range?
Are you just lifting off the accelerator?
I think it is just the pressure being let out of the turbo. The noise is much louder in a 180bhp car or a 150bhp that has been chipped. I would say that it is nothing to worry about.

If it is the "coke bottle" sound, then according to the TT-forum it is the DV. I suggest you have a look at the TT-forum for more iformation.
Have you experienced any loss in power?
Most of the TT's are now running with Bailey or Forge piston DVs, which is ofcourse an aftermarket product.
Hope it helps.
Nikos.

This problem is worth worrying about my old Tsport had this isse after 300 miles. Over time you will notice a drop in performance. My new S3's lasted 3 months. The ones used in the factory are duff and your dealer can install a new one in about 30 minutes, It is located on the passengers side by the windscreen under the bonnet, obvioulsy.
Hope this helps.

I had this exact same problem with my X reg 1.8T. The noise sounded like a resonance coming from the engine bay between 2000 and 3000 revs (it varied) and happened under light acceleration, often under slight load e.g. uphill slopes. In addition, and at the time I believed unrelated, I got occasional brake fade. It took 3 different dealers, 5 days to fix. The problem was solved by Beachwood Audi in Halesowen who replaced a "turbo boost crossover pipe" or similar, the exact name escapes me. It was the pipe which keeps the turbo spinning at low revs. Not only did this solve the noise, but my brakes are now much better (the pipe also feeds the brake servo apparantly) and the pick-up alot quicker. The car is a totally different drive. If you get no look from you local Audi dealer (I was being fobbed off like crazy as Audi technical do not have any info on this problem) then I would recommend giving Beachwood a call.
