has any body with summer/performance tires had them out in the snow? i am looking at toyo proxies or goodyear eagle F1. i realy want to get rid of the P6 all seasons but i dont want to hassel with changing tires in the winter. i have a 2.0T. it snows less than 3 times a year hear and it is pretty accetible to not go to work for a couple of days. the other option is to keep the all seasons and put them on in the winter, what would a set of steelies for the stock size tires run me?

I took my snow tires off that didn't even see snow this year.
We normally only get snow on our roads one or 2 times a year(usually in december or january)
We were downtown last week and had a freak snowstorm....shouldn't have but drove home at about midnight with anywhere from 2-4 inches of snow.(about a 30 mile drive)
The couple of times that I did have to stop it was all I could do to get the car going again even tho in 2nd gear and on flat ground.
When I finally got almost home...touched the brakes to turn up our street and slid about a half block past till we finally stopped.
If you do get a summer tire...fine. If your temp drops below 6 or 7 tho you shouldn't be driving tho. They're dangerous in the snow(don't be an idiot and drive on them like I did;-) )
Summer tires are intended for summer...if you plan to keep the tires on year round go with a high performance all season such as the p zero nero m&s or something like it.

Indeed! The AWD might help you get going, but it won't help you much on stopping. Many winter accidents are the result of overconfidence.
I was amazed the difference 4 good snows made on my old 328i. On mediocre summer performance tires it would barely move in any snow...uphills? Good luck! After one small snowstorm I ordered 4 Blizzaks and it transformed the car.
