Default Test drove A3 today and impressions.....

I finally decided to do some test drives today based on an earlier post and your comments. The candidates were an A4, A3, Miata MX-5 Grand Touring and a WRX.

No WRX's in sight, and that's probably okay.

A4 was nice, too polite, but it was a 6MT. I've had one before and it felt similar. It would definitely need some items such as coilovers, lowering, sport exhaust, etc. My wife liked a lot.

MX-5 would get old after a while, but it was okay but nowhere near as nice as my TT. It had a type of DSG and I was not impressed. Wife did not like at all.

The wife did not like the looks of the A3 at first. She said it looked like a Pinto....grrrrrr. Anyway, we took the test drive and she was as impressed as I was. Wow, what a great car, and it did feel like a TT with a backseat. It was DSG, but I prefer 6MT, but it still felt great. Now she thinks it's as sexy as I do. We both loved the OpenSky system so I may not miss the convertible as much.

Audi has messed with the option packages for 2007, a little, so I'll be ordering a 2.0T S-line. Our German buddies have messed with colors too and now white is a premium color. I also asked about the $550 service charge now. That is correct, but I told the salesman I think Audi is making a mistake and that I'm not too happy about it. I'm sure that will get some attention, yeah, right! It takes about 45 days for delivery after putting in the order.

Anyway, now I know why you are all so enthused with your rides and I'll be joining the A3 fold soon.

Default Oh yeah got to look at an EOS also....

Pretty neat but I can see some problems developing with all the mechanical hardware down the line.

Default did you look at the 5-door GTI?

I test drov eone last week and found it to be very very similar to an A3....I do like A3's styling better though, but still you get about the sam eamount of car for $5K less!

Funniest thing I found...VW charges $1,075 for DSG, and you all know what Audi wants...but in case you don't....$1,480! WTF?

White is an "order only" (no surcharge) paint, not a premium-charge paint.

Default Another car that could be comparable is the Mazdaspeed 3, although the interior probably is not as

nice.

Unfortunately, a few errors in brochure. Search archive here if you're interested.
