The thule system basically requires different feet attachments for a base rack system. The parts are available through UK Thule suppliers. I have a Thule Aero rack for my A3, but I also have the roof rails.

They're so low profile, I'm having a hard time figuring out how they're used. I've searched for a picture of a rack w/ the rails but haven't seen one yet. Maybe it's because the only rails I'm used to are the ones on my Jeep GC on the which the rack base wraps all the way around the rails. It doesn't look like that's possible w/ the A3 system.

I hope Thule US has the feet available soon. I already have the basic rack from my previous car.

So I would think that they'd probably have something available soon -- see the 2006 A6 Avant and Q7. Not sure why the 2006 A4 avant still has the large rails -- it seems like low profile rails would greatly reduce wind noise and friction.
