Default Traction control

Does anyone know what controls the 15 mph cutoff speed on the traction control, and if there is a way to fool it, it would be nice to have a proper traction control system for free as I suffer from wheelspin over 15 mph regularly in the wet.

Default Re: Traction control - EDL???

John

No real help here but...

My understanding is that the EDL - "traction control" in the loosest sense - is integrated with the Anti-lock braking system. So some how, you'd probably have to change the programming of the ABS - if that is possible.

Cheers,

Default Re: Traction control

Hi John,

By traction control I am assuming you refer to EDL - as such the poorest form of traction control I have come across. My A3 handbook states that EDL works up to 25mph and that it is not traction "control" more assistance. As such it judders alot but only seldom provides any extra grip - something about slowing a spinning wheel allowing the non spinning and therefore non driven wheel to have some power sent its way.

I have come out of roundabouts in 3rd gear in the wet and about 45mph and felt EDL kick in. In snow also, EDL judders at most speeds below 30mph.

There have been many threads and posts about EDL both in this forum, the A4 forum and VW forums - overall conclusion is that it is a terrible system mismarketed as traction control. My experience is that if you plant your right foot the wheels spin regardless.

Sorry I have been wordy, but my point is that if you could unlock the EDL limiter - would it be any use at all??

I would be interested in your views of our so called traction control - any better than mine?

Regards

David
