Troubling photos

Many dispute the photos as being from the original accident. Certainly the car was in a horrific crash at some time, perhaps at this very site. The lack of any disturbance in the ground cover has led some to believe the photos are from a training exercise that was a recreation of the original accident. That may be true, but the car definitely was in a terrible crash somewhere.

there are freshly broken off branches around the tree. Also, the tree where the rear of the car fetched up against, also has missing bark that seems to correspond with damage to the car. The engine pic shows pine needles and dirt on top of the engine. In one picture looking back at the road, it appears there are marks and/or debris on the road. Once the car hit the tree, the other parts became airborne. One wheel has a hefty chunk missing, perhaps the car hit a berm, rock, or large pothole, contributing to the loss of control. The windshield can be seen in some pics near the wrapped door.
It could be an accident recreation, but I see no signs of how they got the door wrapped around the tree, tore off the bark, and left the forest floor unmarked by heavy equipment needed to place the major parts. Also, the debris field has inconsequential stuff like CDs, lying around. Seems much more elaborate than required for accident reproduction.

Forum thread

But it's still the 2-door, not the Sportback.

http://www.euroncap.com/content/safety_ratings/details.php?id1=2&id2=176</a

A discovery show featuring the Golden Knights (the Army's super duper parachute team) showed a man slicing another man in half with his arm in a parachuting accident.
I don't think anyone can survive a 100mph crash when hitting something thin and tall. However, some people do get lucky.
