trying to nail down vibration... Pulsing starting at 40mph and up...not tires
After checking the balance and tires and the wheels ... and changing tires, and rotating, and hunter balance.... Not the tires.
I have read where others here have this issue- its a vibration that can be described as a pulsing that you can fell in the center console.
If becomes most noticable at 70-80 mph.
The 3 is at the dealer and they are looking into it.. What i find disturbing is that they drove another A3 on the lot and it has the same vibration.
Now they want to say its normal... Normal for a 35K car to pulse and vibrate.. I think not..
Any one have any insite into this?
thanks- Oh and one more thing,,, its not the tires.

I have an idea . . . do this on an empty street . . .
get up to a mph that you can feel the pulsating . . . shift the car into neutral and see if it goes away . . . coast / brake to a full stop before putting it back into drive.

time for some detective work
This kind of problem is a technician's nightmare. So if you can help out by doing some of the process of elimination, it will increase your chances of getting it fixed.
Some suggestions: does it do it in every gear that is usable in the speed range, or just one? If you gently and carefully pull up a little bit on the e-brake, can you feel the pulsing? If you use the brake pedal very gently? In the steering wheel at all? Does it get worse/better if you turn while it's happening? If you coast? If you accelerate?
Hope this helps,

actually danham does have a good point . . .
if there is air in the line, it could prevent the pad from fully retracting and the pulsating you'd feel is the pad hitting and bouncing back from the rotor . . . this would also slightly occur if the sliders on the brakes were sticking
usually though, if that were the case . . . you'd be getting some bad brake squeal from the brakes
