Wallet key?

200 miles from home, you're walking up to your new A3. You pull the key with attached "brick" out of your pocket and fumble.. It bounces once, then dives into a drain grate. Ten seconds later, you hear a faint splash... (oops)
For the past 10 years, this hasn't been an issue for me, since I've carried a flat key in my wallet (pic). This key can open and start the car.
Do I have this option with the A3, or does the "fob" have to be present for the car to start?

Another way to lose your Audi's key

For whatever reason, the A3 doesn't come with a wallet key, like the other Audis do. I would think you can order one, though. Audi's wallet keys are plastic and waterproof. Great for surfers, swimmers, and other water fanatics.

My Golf and A4 came with the plastic spare key which I attached to my
house keys. I asked the dealer where it was when I collected my A3. Aparently the A3s don't have them, although a friend in the UK has one for his 2003 A3.
It's a shame because it came in useful if I ever forgot my keys.

Doesn't matter if the A3 doesn't come with one at first you can still get one
You can do one of two things.
1, Pretty sure there is an immo compatible plastic key so they can just cut you one and program it to the car.
or
2: keep the other key hidden in the car and just have the plastic key cut and not coded so if you were to misplace it would only open the doors and not start the car. Plus it would save you the cost of getting the key coded to the car.
