Finally had the ipod adaptor from Audi installed. Also replaced the useless credit card / money thingy underneath the RNS-E which I have never used. It is now a cupholder which is available on non sat-nav models.
IPod PROs
* IPod is now controlled by the sat-nav. The attachment fools the sat-nav that it is a CD-Changer. It emulates the first 5 playlists as 5 CDs then CD6 represents all the tunes that are on the ipod.
* IPod gets charged.
IPod CONs
* No song info on screen, just track numbers. Although the name is displayed on the ipod.
* Has replaced my CD-Changer option. Not entirely bad but would be cool to still have.
* Limited playlists. May need arranging when connected to ITunes.

GREETINGS from AUDI! Start up as soon as it is plugged in.

Just a note: Your dealership for some bizaare reason might say 2 things... 1)Not available for the A3 yet... or 2) Not compatible on MMI systems. It probably depends how fast the info filters down to the dealers. 1) It works on the A3... 2) It has worked on my MMI. May be they mean another MMI model??

Only if you have the sat-nav installed, If you do install the cupholder. Take off the front of the face. Basically swap it. The cupholder front face is a wider fit. Replace it with the original card holder front. (See pictures below..)

I got it at http://www.vagparts.com
It should be part number: 8P0862534C5PR
Price was 21.80GBP(40.55USD), I reckon it would cost about 10 pound more at the dealership. Part arrived the next working day (UK). :-)
The direct link to the part on this site is...
https://sslrelay.com/s74326199.oneandoneshop.co.uk/sess/utn;jsessionid=1545aa90e72f7b3/shopdata/0010_Audi/0030_A3+2003+onwards/0010_Interior/0040_Cup+holder/product_details.shopscript?article=0010_Euro%2Bcup %2Bholder%2B%3D288P0862534C5PR%3D29
Originally the holder was designed to fit on the top part of the console. The angle and slight width will not fit straight in consoles with the RNS-E. But there is a quick rememdy. You'll need to tab off the front part of the face cover. Use a small thin philips.
Fit the original face cover onto the cupholder.
But first... you will need to get a small filing tool. Gently file some front corner on the side and on the inside of the cover. You will see what I mean. Once the face cover is on, it will hide all the marks.
That's it. Just contact me if you get stuck. :-)
Cheers.

Designed for the Chorus, Concert, Symphony, RNS-D and RNS-E sat-nav's. Compatible with Ipod's mini, nano and photo range.
Just to let you know that the CD Changer will be taken out and no longer in use.
Just considering selling the cd changer now, but might put it back if I decide to sell the car in the future.
