Default What should my dealer know five weeks out?

We knew the order process was about 3 - 4 months depending on how the build fell around the August break. We placed a factory order on 6/28/06 and was told the order would be placed that day. I have called the dealer a few times asking about status, including last week, and each time the dealer has no information for me.

What should a dealer know five weeks into an order?
What specific information should I be asking to verify that they actually placed the order?
At what point is calling AoA appropriate?

Thanks for your insight.

I placed my order about 6/12 or so, and it wasn't until mid july that the allocation came through for the order. The last time I checked with my dealer was the 22nd, and no cars had been released for August manufacturing yet. I haven't checked back since then, but at least the beginning of the process is waiting for dealer allocation to come through, and then waiting for the end of that month, at which point the car will hopefully be pulled for build during the following month.

Allocation should be confirmed and tracking number issued.

Default Obsessing will not speed up the process

At this point depending on how soon the order was pulled by the factory the car may be built or not. Once it is built and in transit you will have a vin# ans a pretty good eta. (the previous ones are usually not as accurate. However calling and checking on the car won't get it here any faster. I know it's tough to wait but just relax and the car will get there when it does. 90 days is about the average timeframe and if you want proof that the car was ordered you can just ask for print out of the status of the order.

We're not in a hurry, and waiting isn't the issue. It's the complete lack of information. I can place a web order for bubble gum and have more information on order tracking than we're getting from ordering a car.

What we're concerned about is that our allocation was used for somebody else's vehicle, or the order just wasn't placed yet.

We have an EOL vehicle that we are replacing and need to have a plan. With zero information, this is difficult.

Default Ordering information

I agree that if you are a customer there are not many resources to get updates on your order. My suggestion would be to ask your salesperson to print out a copy of your order with the current status. Or you can let me know wahat dealer placed your order and the details of the car and I could probably tell you what status it is in.

Yeah, it's too bad you can't track your car through the process of it being built and such through their web site. I imagine Audi could do pretty cool things, such as providing photos of your car as its being constructed, painted, loaded onto boat, etc.

RS6 folks could do that. Takes more work. Used on halo high margin cars.
