Standard is 205/60 7J x 15"
On the Australian A3 1.8, the standard tyre size is 205/60 on 7J x 15" rim. You need to keep the same overall rolling diameter to avoid affecting your speedometer.
A rule of thumb is for every 10mm increase in width, drop 5% in profile. For example, to go to a 215 width would involve going to a 55 profile tyre, thence a 225/50, and 235/45.

Re: what is the standard tyre size?
Take a look at the web page I created below. Type in your old tyre sizes then try new ones to see which gives the nearest rolling circumference.
For 18's, I would reccomend maximum wheel width of 8 inch and tyre size 225/40/18<ul><li><a href="http://www.simonprickett.btinternet.co.uk/Car/wheel.htm">Click here</a></li></ul>
