I've been thinking about a set of S3 wheels in place of the standard 6.5x16 on the A3 1.8T sport. This would give me 7.5x17 and 215 or 225 45x17 tyres.I know where there is a set of wheels but no tyres!
There 's been a lot of talk in the S4 Forum about the 28lbs weight of these wheels.
I know all about unsprung weight and BBS RC are much lighter ( and far more expensive) but do not have that 'stock' look
Any comments?

The wheels on the S cars come from the Avus concept and look great. I visited a tyre/wheel shop recently and the guy said "your wheels look fabulous and I won't sell you BBS Wheels even if you asked for some". I don't expect the weight difference between Avus and BBS wheels to have a very significant (in terms of driving experience) impact on unsprung weight. In the end your taste (maybe the cost as well) should determine your final decision.
The stock tyres on my S3 are 225/45 R 17 W Pirelli P6000. Go for another type, the Pirelli P6000's are not satisfying. I'd choose between Michelin Pilot Sport, Pirelli P Zero Rosso and Goodyear Eagle F1 GSD 2.

Have a look at A!Avantgarde 'S' type wheels 100/5 (i.e. for A3) specifically manufactured by BBS for this German tuner.
I run a set of 17x8 with 225/45 17ZR ContiSport tyres, which by the way are excellent. Cmbination looks fantastic and drives even better as 225/45 stretches tightly over 17x8" wheel.
For BBS quality these wheels were sold to me by www.avantgarde-prestige.com for less than DEM300 per wheel ex works Germany. Get them to send you A3 brochure as the dent-design is not apparent from looking at frontal pictures on the web. I must admit I did not look into weight too much but these wheels were light and BBS brand.
I higly recommend them for quality and design. I investigated A3 wheels for 6 months before making decision which I appreciate can be subjective.
