Does the current A3 have a 'B' number like the A4 (B7)? Over on the A4 forum there is talk of a B8 for 2008. Is that when the A3 would change too?

That means we're jsut rounding out the third production year now... in a few weeks we will enter the fourth production year.

I think that the big mouth was the facelift, so we're in the seccond half of production already, how long the seccond half goes for I dunno, but I'd expect that there is no more than 2 years remaining on the 8P A3.

http://www.whatcar.com/car-review-summary.aspx?RT=11</a

It's rumored that it's because of the cost of production plus the lack of a large enough engine compartment to fit such things as the 3.6l V6. Production of the A5-based models is only for another 2 years, followed by the A6 introduction.

I got told once that the A3 is supposed to be called MKI (8L) and MKII (8P) because A5 is used for the B8 coupe. But I agree with A5 since it's based on the Golf V witch is the A platform in VAG world.
