Default 'whizzing' noise...

OK, I've only been driving my A3T for a couple of months now, but I have just noticed a 'whizzing' noise comming from the bonnet (no, it's not the turbo, i will explain...)

When I accelerate hard in any gear, obviosuly I hear the whine of the turbo spinning up. But, when I take my foot off the accelerator, sharply or gradually, I can hear a noise that i can only describe as a sort of whizz or whoosh.
I'm a little worried to be honest as have never heard it up till now.
The car has just covered 30k, could it be something to do with the turbo pressure release?
I don't really know enough about turbos yet to diagnose it myself.
Anyone any ideas?
I can give more info if you ask for it.

Cheers
Si

Default Is it the dump valve?

Some people (Renault 5 GT Turbo drivers)
pay good money to have that sound amplified so the whole bloody street can hear it!!!

Well I read on somewhere that a worn DV can cause a release of pressure from the turbo, causing that woosh noise instead of putting it to good use.

I don't know enough to say that, but I was wondering if that was what it is.

Have to admit the sound is pretty cool, but am I loosing power if that is the problem. DVs are relatively cheep to replace.

I had it serviced though the other week. Would they have seen it then?

Agree. Sounds like the diverter valve. If you hear a kind of "chakka-chak" turbo-pressure release noise when lifting off or between gear changes then it sounds like the DV is leaking. They're cheap (20 UK pounds) and should take minutes to fix as they're easy to access.

Its very simply, simply releasing 3 jubilee clips and fitting the new one.

not sure how you know if its blown I just replaced mine with a new forge one just in case.

I'll post a picture of where it is on an S3 if you need it.
