i'm thinking of leasing an a3 instead of purchasing because of what i'm hearing about resale value. so who got the best lease deal here and what options did you get?

Money factors and residuals change each month, and sometimes incentives vary by region, so nothing is really applicable unless within a state or two, and within a month or so.

If it were zero down my lease payment would be $600/month(48 months) compared to $800 a month if I'd financed for 5 years with 0 down @7% (Not sure what current finance rates are..assume they're around 7%)
$200/month savings for 48 months=$9600
$800/month for 12 months=$9600
Total difference=$19200
My buyout is around $18 000 so if I pay cash and buy it it's actually about the same as if I'd financed as far as end cost.
FYI I'm in Canada. Base model with open sky, lava grey. Car was about $35,000 (would be $40,000 after taxes)
When I leased mine the only car I cross-compared was a cooper S and the payments were roughly the same for a similarly priced car.

If you're not going to own the car for more than 2-3 years.. lease is the way to go IMHO.
my buy-out is around 19.5k.
oh.. car was about 31.5k w/ premium sound, s-line, open sky, 2.0t

any car I own (synth oil every 5K miles, condition leather twice a year, etc). It would be a great platform for somebody who wants to go nuts tuning, because it's otherwise a basic car (just stick, premium and bose).

I got mine for $2500 drive-off, $410/mo, 10k a year, for 3 years. Before the lease special, the best I could get was $525/mo for that same deal. Car was MSRP of $31.9k. (2.0T, DSG, s-line, open-sky, pearl paint, cold climate). Don't forget, in CA we pay 8.25% tax too. Monthly was around $380 before tax.
Yes, A4's are cheaper, but so are alot of cars. I wanted the A3.

I'll probly buy mine out because I've done too much to take it all out. (That and I'll be over on miles)
Vancouver BC area they've held their value quite well also.
06's that were 40k new are selling for around 34-35 with 20,000-30,000km on them.

I will miss her when she goes :-( But leasing has certainly held me back from modding, so there might be a upside to it;-)

'07 2.0T, Dakar:
(See list of options below. $32.5k list)
They agreed to throw in Audi Care per '06.
Residual $18.5k
It is unlikely we will put on more than 8k mi/yr. (less than 2k in first 3months).
Had planned to buy, but were still leery of Audi reliability (but no longer).
The car is too fun to drive for only a 1 mile commute!
