I'm running Conti Contac 2s that came with my 18s. They got almost 14K and two VIR track days on them, but the guys told me to keep them on. Hell, we are going to do a HPDE with the Triangle Sports Car Club in Febuary at VIR. It snowed last year.
We ain't had much snow here in NC. What we do get paralizes everything. Can you say "gridlock"? WTF, I guess that's what quattro is for.

But I hate the look of 17"s on the car, dropped, and especially + body kit. So I hold out until I really need to make the switch. My Coopers are better in the rain than the P6s. Believe it or not. So yes, the P6s are the greatest.
I have never driven the car in the snow. I think it may be driven this year in small storms. Talking 1-3" +drift/slush/etc. I'm now considering selling the P6s for $100-200. And putting snows on the 17"s. Winters run about $125-150 per correct?
But we're not expecting much snow this season. So I can't really justify it right now.

It's also the wheels!
If you have some nice aftermarket wheels on there, winter wheels are nice protection against "that pothole hidden in a puddle" that ends up costing you $xxx to repair/ replace a rim.
Few years back I was feeling lazy and didn't pull off the steels on my GTI (and was driving around with the RCs in the back of the car, that how lazy I was feeling). I hit a pothole that was in a puddle on my commute home. Puddle was there all winter, the pothole was new. Bent the steel wheel at least 2". If that was one of the RCs, it would have been $400, and a real hassle, to replace it. (don't ask... the 337 came with a one-off shot-peened RC in a 7" width...) As it was, I just had the steelie bent back into shape, but even if I had to replace it, it would have been $35.
Think of it as cheap insurance for your nice rims.
btw... I love the fact that you have a FAQ on storing you summer tires, and you're still rolling on them.
Drive carefully Ryan.

I was expecting to swap a few weeks ago, which is when I added that link. But wow, it's mild again. I'll take it.
It'll be cold enough in Jan/Feb.
I hear you about the wheels. It'll be nice to put on the OEMs and not worry about the potholes as much.

and it snowed (a lil) on that Monday. Did it more for the forcasted low temps in the 20s, now this week we're back in the 50s... WTF?

like Dunlop Wintersports. A change to snow tires shouldnt really be specifically for snow, its for temp.. Summers get like bricks once it drops below 40-45 degrees, and arent designed to operate in colder temps as they should. Reguardless of how clear the roads are they can be very dangerous.
