Default Winter wheels

What wheels did you pick for your winter setup?

My 3.2 car came with the optional 18" wheels with summer tires, but I want to downsize to 17" for the winter (crazy how going to 17" is downsizing now). Should I go to 16"?

I don't know what wheels to pick. And it's becoming urgent for me to decide.

One side of me wants cool looking wheels because they'll stay on for such a long portion of the year. This side is more of hedonist.

The other side of me is reasonable and knows about salt, college savings for the daughter, and general spending priorities. That side tends to feel a little guilty too.

So should I go with nice OE replicas? Or the cheaper (but still OK) wheels at the Tirerack (for instance)?

What wheels did you all pick?

Oh and what's a safe ET for 17" wheels on a 3.2?

Default Hartmann and Ronal both offer winter wheel/tire packages and should know what wheels

will fit your car.

Default I got a pretty good deal on these wheels at my dealer

I decided to go with 16's-I'm going to test the theory that narrower tires are better in the snow. So far they have done well, but we haven't yet had a truly huge dump of snow, so it's too soon to decide if 16's were the right choice.

Default I went with

16" Tire Rack wheels (Sport Edition F2) with Bridgestone Revo 1s in a 205/55/16 size.

I locally priced out Nokia 17" tires, but mounted and balanced onto the factory wheels, they totaled $800.00

The Tire Rack set up was $881.76 delivered, mounted and balanced on new alloys.

I couldn't justify the extra cost of 17" - given that I basically got a 'free' set of alloys that I can sell someday - as opposed to mounting and dismounting twice a year at $80+ a pop.

Default the idea that narrower tires are better is not really a theory...

it's more of a fact.
