Are Xenons a must have option???

They are very nice, but there are many options I would choose over them (Sport pkg, heated seats, Open Sky, SAT radio).
I have had them on previous cars and, well, I was not impressed enough with them to lay down hundreds for them. Yes, they were nice and better, but not that much better (IMHO).

personally, xenons are important because i drive on parkway in the suburb every night where there's no street lights and i find that the xenons make a substantial difference in improving visibility and hence safety. plus, i am coming from a mini cooper s with xenons and i am very used to having xenons already...

i have difficulty seeing at night while driving, so when i drive a car with halogens it's scary. when i drive a car with xenons, i feel much better because the visibility is far greater. there is definitely a huge difference between the two.
i'm sure that in the future, all audis will eventually come standard with them. some models already do, like the TT, S4, allroad, and A8 i believe.

I had xenons on my B5 S4 and before I sold the car they had clearly lost much of their intensity.
I'm not convinced xenons are the answer.
Plus, I personally HATE the stupid 'turning' feature on the A3's xenons. Dumb.

I might consider them if the A3's particular design produced a significantly better beam pattern on the road relative to the halogens. Brigher & whiter isn't necessarily better. I'd have to try both at night, back-to-back to see if I wanted to spend the extra $$$

Daniel Stern's opinion on the disadvantages of HID:

No. The adaptive bi xenons are awfully nice, but $800 nice?
