I have a 2016 A3 with the "inspection due" coming on. As I am new to this I read a few threads and people were recommending different VCDS devices, but everything I see is either compatible with Android or through a Windows program. I have a Macbook (currently without Windows) and iPhones/iPads and didn't know if there was any piece of equipment that would be compatible with these interfaces. Any advice would be appreciated, as I have a trusted mechanic that I have had for years, and don't with to pay $30.00 just for the dealership to clear the notification.

I think you can reset through MMI. There's VCDS mobile which runs a bluetooth dongle and runs in a browser IIRC or could always do parallels or bootcamp..

If you only want to re-set the inspection reminder you can consider Carista and an OBD-II plug in device. I have used it in the past and it's a pay as you go process. Not exactly a free solution but I have found it to be worthwhile. While you have it there are some basic configurations you can change as well and it also allows you to put the rear brakes in maintenance mode when the time comes.
