Frankly I do not leave my car in accessory mode when using a compressor, which is not very often. On the other hand if the doors are left open long enough and not opened and closed I believe the car shuts the lights off by itself. If you feel like trying your luck go for it but I don't particularly want to find out on my vehicle.

So if you don’t leave it on accessory mode what do you do? Turn on the car and let engine run while using air compressor?

I do leave it running for the compressor. I don't do it often but yes I leave the car running. I would only use the compressor in an emergency and I would not want to end up with a dead battery when done with the compressor as that only makes matters worse.

Sadly w this German over engineered vehicle I need to do the same. Waste gas and have engine running just to use a compressor. Thanks.
