Default A3 Rear Bumper Scrape

Hi, I just recently was victim to a hit and run, where someone scraped my left rear bumper.
I got a quote from a reputable repair shop in Toronto, saying that it is going to cost me $1200-$1500 (Canadian). This is due to painting it and also recalibrating the rear sensors. Is this fee reasonable or am I being milked here?

It's mostly labor costs that kill you.

Since they are Canadian, they are sorry about it at least. Maybe they will offer you some doughnuts and beer while you wait.

I'm not buying the "calibrating the rear sensors" BS personally. This is a repair shop telling you they have to do that? I seriously doubt that impact you had on that rear bumper was severe enough to require that. The sensors themselves look perfectly fine as they're not even removed from their original position.

You should take it to the dealer and get their input on the sensors and perhaps even who they use for repairs.

you should test the censor now, throw on the parking system and go reverse to see if it picks up the distance shown on the screen.

and you'll have your answer right there if it's calibrated or not.

Thanks for your replies. Yup, one of the first things I did was to check the sensors after the incident. I had a feeling that the calibration of the sensors due to repainting the rear bumper was bs. I will look into other body shops. Thanks!

So did it operate as normal when you checked the sensors? I assume yes. Oh and by the way, that shop you took your car to probably wouldn't be able to "calibrate" jack. If anything, they would need to take the car to an Audi shop in order for them to clear codes, etc.
