CarPlay Not working

I have a 2017 a3, I have recently purchased it and figured out it has apple CarPlay. Every time I plug my phone in, the car asks to continue the setup and data transfer. After I click yes it closes and does not open car play. I’m not sure if it’s the car or the phone as of yet. I’ve only been able to find one other phone that worked only once and never again. Thus confining it has it. Any help would be appreciated. It’s a great feature and I’d like to enjoy it lol.

Which usb are you plugging into? I was told by my local dealer that you need to plug into the front usb for CarPlay to work but I’m not sure I believe them cause when I plug into the center usb it asks me to connect for CarPlay but then never does. Unfortunately my front usb doesn’t work currently. Debating on getting it fixed cause I don’t believe the dealer

I am new on the forum and with Audi ownership. I initially found it difficult too to engage Car Play. It helped to reboot the MMI system as well as the cell phone. It works most the time and when it doesn’t I reboot.

After the Audi supplied usb cord finally failed on mine, i had to cycle thru a few new cords before I found one that worked. I use the center armrest usb always. IME you need to use a good cord, the car seems sensitive and rejects the five dollar store ones.

thanks! I think this confirms I don’t need to use the front usb. I am using a new genuine Apple chord as specified by Audi and it doesn’t work. Going to try rebooting the mmi when I get off from work in a few hours.

Update. I’ve found a phone that works every time with a good cord. It’s a brand new iPhone 12. I’ve been through about 15 chargers. I’ve reset the mmi and the whole system now. Still no luck. I’ve been in touch with Apple to figure out if it’s my phone or not. If anyone else has anything else I could try please let me know.

Clean the iPhone plug, and use the center console USB port. If usb cord does not work, reverse it where it plugs into the phone. If that doesn’t work, get another cord.
