Default Tire Pressure

For those with 19" summer tire package, what tire pressure do you run for everyday driving cold?

I run the max shown on the door sticker (I believe it's 44psi all around). I've ruined too many rims on potholes and want the max protection possible. Ride is a little harder, but once you get used to it it's fine.

In my experience with hitting potholes, the higher the PSI, the less forgiving the tire and the greater chance for a bent wheel or damaged tire.

I think I'm running 40 psi all around.

Yeah 44 PSI, which is what the door says, seems high. I'm at 38 PSI currently but 40 sounds about right.

This is not specific to the the A3 or S3, but the pressure indicated on the door is designed to hold up the weight of the car when fully loaded. If you drive around with a mostly empty car, that means your tires are over-inflated at that pressure and won't make even contact with the road across the whole width of the tire and even suffer from increased wear in the center vs the sides. For driving around mostly empty, you should inflate it to the normal load pressure listed in the user manual.

Please don't patronize me. I read the manual, cover-to-cover. I don't drive around with a mostly empty car; usually 2-3 people. I always get excellent tire wear. The times when I've had wheels destroyed by potholes my tires were not inflated to the full load. The OP asked for folks opinions, and I gave him mine. Thank you.

Default 38-40 PSI on 19" rims

Most of the time it is just me, and I don't litter my car with extraneous junk, so 38-40 seems to be a good compromise for a DD.

I believe his post was a response to the OP and not directed at you so no need to be defensive.
I also happen to agree with his comments.

I responded to OP, why would you interpret this as patronizing you? What I posted was the general guidance.
