Was reading some other threads and came across someone making a change to the wiper service mode via the VAG. And recall reading past posts about how to get the wipers into service mode when washing your car. Well I ran across a major shortcut many moons ago and failed to share with you guys. Have not read about this trick anywhere else either.
We know one can't lift the wipers up off the windshield while the wipers are parked. They would come into contact with the hood. While washing the car some time ago, without thinking, I just sort of pulled the wipers up across the windshield in their normal arc. Assumed they would not move. Well they did move. And there was literally no resistance. I was able to wash the base of the windshield as well as the tray at the base. Just gently pushed the wipers back into the max down position when done. I've done this numerous times now and it has no ill effect on wiper operation that I can tell.
Give it a try sometime. Sure made things easier for me when washing the car.

Interesting find. Our 2006 won't do it, but my '11 A4 does. I'll have to check the Q5 later today.
By accident, a couple weeks ago, I think I bumped the wiper stalk down on our A6 immediately after turning the key off. That put the wipers into the Service position. I'll have to see if I can duplicate that condition.
