I'm planning a purchase of a 2024 S3 and would like to target Spring 2024 (April/May) for delivery.

What are the thoughts on when I should be placing an order considering lead times and allocations? Also... what is the current status regarding any deleted features related to the chip shortage?

I was told that if I ordered now (4/17/23) my delivery date would be 18+ months out. That is insane!

I would suggest calling your local dealer and ask...but be prepared to call several dealers. These cars are still in fairly high demand and dealers don't know when and how many cars they're going to get.

I'm confused, there are like 200 new ones for sale in the US currently. I do not think you will have an issue.

I was looking to custom order so as to get the specific configuration and color I wanted.

You need to get in touch with a dealer you want to work with and monitor their S3 allocations given to them. Not all dealers get the same allocations and/or the number of cars at any given time. Back in November 2022, I firmed up my order with my local dealer for a 2023 S3. At that time, they had a handful of S3 allocations for the first and second quarters of 2023 and we configured one for April delivery. My car got built in February and delivery was March which was ahead of schedule.
