So PPC is basically MLBevo chassis with PPE interior? Definitely the MLBevo rear suspension configuration. And the same interior as the already released Q6. Clicky steering wheel controls? youtu.be/R-LUZMSDKKU?t=519 Wonder how the door handles will be; the B9 A4 handles were annoying every time I had to use them. It appears the Q6 went back to normal moving door handles. Those front bumper picture frames were terrible when B9.5 came out, and they are still terrible. But having seen them on the road now, they aren't blatantly offensive in a passing glance. Still, wtf. The rest of the exterior is good enough, and the cupholders aren't shoved under the dash anymore. Wonder if the new infotainment system will be any better sorted than MIB3's mess. Curious rear crossbar there on the mufflers. Battery is too small for PHEV, so A and S are MHEV and the RS is PHEV. Wonder if the S gets any actual performance benefit from the 48v, or if it's purely an emissions crutch like in the A.

Going G80 over the B10 now looks to be an easy decision. I didn't have high expectations for the B10 and my skepticism is now justified. The S model seems to be an emissions compliance vehicle with Quattro Ultra, in addition to the MHEV powertrain.

The Ars article also mentioned that the MHEV system will not be present in the NA-spec model, which is a real head-scratcher to me. If that's true, why? There are no regulatory reasons the system couldn't exist here, and Audi wouldn't sell a model that's significantly more or less powerful in either region outside of completely different fuel types, eg petrol vs diesel, so the hybrid system can't be adding a ton of power to the Euro-spec model if any at all. Is the MHEV only adding fractions of MPG that are only needed for Euro emissions but not CAFE? Is the new system so expensive to integrate that they're only putting it in regions where they're absolutely necessary to sell the cars? And if that's the case, will other regions get a discount (LOL)?

The A5 used to be for people who actually cared about the design. The B10 is all about cost savings for Audi at the cost of artistry. The B8 exterior was art, as was the B9 interior. That’s why the B9 was still winning head-to-head comparisons up to the very end, even against newer designs from BMW and Mercedes. Customers are gaining nothing from the new model. Audi will charge the same or more and pocket the savings. I guess Audi felt like they made the B9 too attractive and want to make it clear that they see the B10 as only for people who can’t afford an A7 but who insist on the four rings.
The Ars Technica article says it’s 1 inch taller than the current gen. That’s really a shame because the lower-than-typical roofline combined with the lower-than-typical ride height of the A5 is one of its defining characteristics. The e-tron GT and Taycan have me hope that they’d double down on the lowness. This is something fundamental they can’t fix in a refresh.
Removing the Hofmeister kink was a mistake. This is what made the Sportback look better than the coup and the A7.
It doesn’t seem so obvious from the press photos that are taken from a low vantage point, but the hood is also really disappointing. The clamshell on the B9 really made it look special as from typical angles you didn’t see a seam. Makes a big difference in how I see the car in daily life.
Every time I get in my B9 A5 I feel like I got a hell of a good deal on a car that was just barely below an A7. Looks like B10 owners will have a car just barely above an A3.

As someone who had an A3 for several years, the biggest difference between the A3 and the A5 is the quality of the interior materials. As long as Audi keeps the quality up, there will be no mistaking it for an A3. The main reason for the change in the roof of the A5 is that it now has to do double duty as an A4 replacement and people complained about the lack of rear headroom.
