I agree with the test drive part but not with the popularity of the S-line package on this car. My dealer has brought in one non S-Line car since 2008 that wasn't customer ordered and it is still in the show room/is now a courtesy car.

You probably don't see them on the lot because they're sold.

To the OP, my preference is the S-Line package. It would be a must for me but a test drive in both would be a good idea so that you can experience the subtleties.

Don't agree. Here is an example: in Chicago there are 7 Audi dealers and of all the A5's in stock there is only one S Line. For those same dealers they probably only ordered a total of 2 S Line in the last 7 months. Just for fun, check the inventory of any dealer in the US and see how many S Line are there? You will be hard pressed to find more than a few.

how about the price. Is this a fair price for an 08 A5? any idea how much value will it hold in 2-3 years?

I am pleasantly amazed how much the A5 and S5 hold their value.

Not to be off topic but I bought my 08 A6 4.2 S line with almost every option with 14k miles for $41k 2 weeks ago. The MSRP was $64k. Clean car fax BTW.

I could only hope my car holds its value as well as your cars.

Everytime I see an S5 it makes me wonder if I should have gone that route.

Good luck with the purchase.

IMHO, unless you are a dealer, you will not know the monthly trends of car pricing. A year ago, it was a great time to buy a used car due to the recession. In fact, February 2009 was the low point where you could have had a bargain. Now auto dealers are selling quite well so pricing has risen.

Your best bet is to view autotrader.com and cars.com along with ebay to see what the market is telling you. Then you can use that data to negotiate the best deal on the car you want.

My other suggestion is to get a used car with as many options that you can since those will all be discounted relative to a new one. Cars take the biggest price hit in the first two years so a 2008 will be a great value. I have a loaded A5 and love every single option. My only regret...wish I had the S5.

Don't we all?! make my S5 a Meteor Gray please.
Went today to make the deal. Car sold 2 hours earlier! Since I had my mind set on a A5, I "tried" to buy a new A5 2.0T. But the damn dealer low-balled me big time on my 06 A3 3.2Q with ridiculously low mileage ( I live 2 miles away from work, nice commute). They offered probably close to less than 4K what's its worth ( edmunds, crs.com, autotrader etc.. as you mentioned above). I walked out obviously. The A5 will have to wait for another day.

Default i have an 08 A5 s line

i have 22,000 miles on mine. I drove an 2010 A5 for a week when my car was having some work done on it. it was not an s line. I did not like the seats at all. my seats offer great side and hip support. They also look way better than non s line seats. The suspention in the s line car is way better. why do you think the S5 has that suspention?

The look of the exterior with s line is far superior as well. There is a reason it cost well over 3k.

if you can afford it without making a hole in your budget go ahead and buy it, my friend Cem has a 2008 3.2 s-line 6speed and we are side by side most of the time when around town, only in highways I am ahead of him but i really got to push the limits in my S5 to maintain the crown. I have driven the 1.8T and 2.0T and those are slow in comparison, perfect fit for spoiled teenagers who just got their driving licenses and 7-8sec to 100km(62mph) seem like a rocket
