Default 2009 A5 Audio Music Interface problem with Ipod? Help

I just got my new 2009 A5 with the Audi Music Interface, no navigation. Both of my ipod wont work I have a 60 gig & an 80 gig.

I do the whole media > Source > AMI (Audi Music Interface)> empty.

So what I do is unplug & reconnect the ipod adaptor that i got at Audi.

Then the AMI initializes but the it get the error screen:
The Audi Music Interface : This device or this cable type is not supported. I've rebooted the ipods with the car being off & with the car being on. I would appreciate if someone could give me a hand.

First thing is to check the firmware versions of your iPods and make sure that they are up to date. There's a list somewhere on this forum or a5oc.com that shows the iPod type, and the firmware supported by MMI.

Easiest thing to do as one step of figuring it out is to plug your iPods in to iTunes and make sure that there are no firmware updates for your iPods. The 60GB iPod is older, but if I remember correctly it should be supported.

Default Here is Audis iPod compatibility list and iPod firmware versions

Here is Audis iPod compatibility list and iPod firmware versions (minimum required I think)

Apple iPod mini 1.4.1
Apple iPod 1G nano 1.3.1
Apple iPod 2G nano 1.1.3
Apple iPod 3G nano 1.1.2
Apple iPod 4G photo 1.2.1
Apple iPod 4G 3.1.1
Apple iPod 5G video 1.3
Apple iPod 6G classic 1.1.2
Apple iPod touch 1.1.4
Apple iPhone 1.1.4

Judging from the size of you iPod hard drives, you have at least 4G (4th generation) so that shouldn't be the problem. If the firmware is latest, then that is fine too. And since you have two iPods, I doubt both are broken. Maybe the cable you got from your dealer is broken or wrong?

Audi parts system says the following iPod cables are for A4/A5 with AMI/MMI:

4F0 051 510 E adapter
4F0 051 510 L adapter

(more part numbers in the link below)

Does the cable have a part number? Is it one of the above?

I would try with another cable if I were you. If that doesn't work (and you confirm the part number is correct in the cable), then your AMI may need servicing.

http://www.geocities.com/a6retrofit/articles/a4a5amiparts.html</a

Well it detects it but i'm unable to do anything with it. I have the cable that ends with the letter E, can you tell me it thats the same cable that you have or is yours the cable ending with the letter L. Worst case I'll call my sales person 7 have him deal with that problem.

hey ibis. I just got a 2009 A4. I have the same problem with my MMI. Did you ever figure it out? This is really annoying me being that my car is 1 day old. I have a 6 month old Ipod Nano and I also tried using a different ipod and it does the same thing... help.
