I own a 2009 A5 Sportback 2.0T 180HP. Ever since its first days the engine has been consuming oil at rates higher than normal. Done all the waiting up until 5000 km (as manual says) but problem only got worse. Now the car has 18000 km and alarms for oil top up of 1 litre every 700-800 km. Hey this is almost the rate at which I refuel ! I have posted the complete top up log on www.myA5experience.webs.com.
Dealer first mentioned that piston rings would need to be replaced. I insisted on replacing the complete engine instead. After filing a written complaint with Audi was informed that Audi is working on the problem and that a new software patch (and possibly some hardware modification) may solve the problem.
I push things constantly with dealer but they say that it is up to AUDI to provide a firm Technical Solution to the problem. It has been a year and I am still waiting. Is this worrying or what?

I have a new 2010 A5- when checking oil levels (on the MMI, not with the dipstick), it tells me my oil is very low (although no warning light came on).
Is this normal to be low on oil after only 5000 miles?
I am scheduled for a 5000 mile service in a couple of weeks- Audi just topped off my oil to get me until the service.

i have the same issue...around 3K miles, i put a quart when the indicator was 3/4ths down but i didnt get the warning. the MMI showed i was full after that. I got my 5 K done, now around 9K miles, i got the msg thats says add 1quart max. i did that and it still gave me the same msg, i added anther, same msg. i refused to add a third and have driving the car to about 9800 miles. i was planning on changing the oil at 10K anyway so im just going to schedule a appt with the dealership to have a look at the oil sensor as well as another couple of things that have been bothering me with the car lately (RPM fluctuates between 2200-2400 at about 25-40 mph at times, when reversing, the wheel makes a weird grinding sound and vibrates)
My car has the same "reverse shudder," yet when I took it to the dealership the problem was non-existent, I'll just have to try again at my 15K service appointment.
On a side note, any particular oil recommendations out there? I picked up 3 qts. of Mobil 5W-30 on an impulse buy, but honestly I forgot to even check if it synthetic.

My A5 3.2Q was gobbling oil rapidly. Dealer did an 'oil consumption test'. The engine is now being replaced. Apparently the seals on the pistons or something are 'loose'.
Other symptom was some darkish smoke under heavy acceleration occasionally noticable from exhaused.
I know of two other A5 3.2s which are being replaced for the same reason.
*shrug*
