2010 S5 to ditch 4.2 V8 in favor of 3.0T supercharged engine?

The article mentions the next generation S5 coming out in 2009, but since the A5/S5 only came out recently, I think they mean the current car will get an engine downgrade (or upgrade, depending on your viewpoint) in 2009, presumably for the 2010 model year. Seems to make sense to bring the S5 in alignment with the 3.0T S4.
The 30% fuel economy gain is significant, but I can't help but think they should have done more to keep the 3.0T horsepower output at or above the existing 354 hp rating of the 4.2 V8. For S4 application, the 3.0T engine meant a healthy increase of torque (from 302 to 325 lb-ft) and only a slight decrease in horsepower (340 down to 330 or 333), but if the same 3.0T engine is put into the S5, it means at least 20 hp less and no gain in peak torque. It would make sense that they drop the price slightly but I doubt that will be the case.

Inside Line: Audi S5 engine change in 2009

The S5 is supposed to be a bit upscale from the s5, and also, it's meant to be a tourer, the shift V6t seems nice in theory but personally it takes away from the appeal for me. If they want to put it in the A5 go for it, but S5 should keep the v8 and bump up it's HP, throw the v6t in the A5. Just my opinion, part of the appeal for the S5 for me was it was a v8.

I love V8s but the mileage and weight/handling penalty made it not worthwhile for me to spend an extra $10,000. If there were almost no mileage or weight penalty, however, I'd have gone for it. I can't wait for this sucker to come out (even if it might make me like my A5 just a hair less)!

I don't get it , so what would have you gained??? You are simply paying the same amount for more car, you wouldn't have really gone for the S5?
