Hi all, I have a 2012 A5 with 17k. The engine seems to have died. My dealer is waiting for Audi corporate to give them the go ahead to replace the engine.
They aren't exactly sure what happened yet. I'm not a mechanical guy, I know enough about cars to be able to change the oil and that's about it.
The dealer is telling me that I will get a "re-manufactured engine". I assume that's a cute way of saying rebuilt. They say that the only used part is the engine block and everything around it is new.
I believe that Audi is within their rights to do this. I'm just wondering how somebody who knows about engines, would feel about a rebuilt engine. Are Audi's claims true that the engine is basically new?
Any suggestions or input would be appreciated. Thanks.

Rebuilt will be as cited mostly new parts and subsequently Audi tested. You'll be fine and you'll have an essentially new engine. It wouldn't bother me at all to have a re-man'd. What would bother me is that the engine made it through Audi QA in the first place. But then, so did my leaking sunroof!
