BMW appears to be following Audi's marketing strategy with their A4/A5 and S4/S5 products. So the current/next gen BMW variants will be 3 series (sedan) and 4 series (coupe). This will carry forward to the M models (like Audi with the RS series).

True...but their "4-door coupes" will also be 4-series models as well.

i guess it just seems weird bc the m3 has been regarded as one of the best if not the best track car given the price. It seems odd to eliminate the coupe version and call it an M4
