With the arrival of the BMW 5series GT, development of BMW 3series GT, and reported MBZ CLS " sportback" , why Audi refuses to market the A5 Sportback in the US is a mystery to me, since there is prob a larger US mkt for this than the near $100K A7 Sportback that they are bringing here. Most autoscribes are saying " sportbacks " may be the key to reviving " station wagons " in the US , as people have turned away from socially offputting SUVs and eventually sales of " crossover " SUVs may drop also as the population ages and doesn't want to climb up into their daily drivers but still want some benefits of a hatch to haul the occas bulky item.
( All of this is ridiculous when you think about it as the traditional car-like station wagon/avant with it's more upright rear seat headroom and squared off cargo back is the best solution to begin with, but people are sheep and must follow the trends of their neighbors.)

I was in Paris last week, and I saw easily a dozen A5 sportsbacks on the road. They are gorgeous! This is what the Porsche Panamera should have looked like. Really, it's gorgeous! Photos don't do it justice.
