Default street start involves no RPM drop, equivalent of flooring from a stoplight

all cars are slower 5-60 than 0-60 in magazine tests

the Evolution has a street start time of 1 second+ slower than 0-60, which means there is some serious lag

8 tenths is about average

Default Re: Agreed, PericlesNYC.

yeah, I'm waiting for my S5, but I'm over this insane need for people to always have the best of the best of the best.
We [as Americans] already have a great life in every respect.

I think it's important to appreciate all of our blessings. A5s included. LOL.

I said no to an A5 because I was waiting for my S5. That was close to six months ago.

I'm sure I would have been happy in the A.

Default Not to be construed as a troll, BUT

being a previous 04 S4 owner, I am less than impressed with the cost and performance of the A5. When compared to the 335i, it is significantly more expensive, has much less performance and worse fuel economy. 335i seems to match up better with the more expensive and even less fuel efficient S5. Don't get me wrong, the A5 and S5 seem to be great cars, but seem to loose big time when compared the 335i. I don't figure how Audi decide to configure and price these cars . Lets not even talk about lease rates and residuals.

Default i tend to agree

i was looking mainly at the a5/s5 until i ran into the whole 6 month-1 yr wait plus the fact that there is virtually no discounting. the 335xi coupe matches up very comparably and is discounted 3K without haggling (making them priced similarly). I think the S5 is priced well, but the A5 is overpriced for what you get imho. i know there is the whole "interior" debate, but test driving the a5 to 335 back to back is not much of a comparison if you look for performance and driving dynamics. if you want looks then the a5 is better, if only because its newer. the 335 had s5 like demand when it came out too, and now is no longer the "it" car.

Default That's the whole problem. The A5 is a 328xi competitor. Build a comparable 328 and it's over 50k

And you'll still be stuck with BMW's 18" wheels, far less horsepower with a 6 cyl 230bhp engine, and performance. A5 will do circles around the 328xi in nearly every area. Enough of the "driving dynamics", there is not that much of a difference between the brands any longer, and if you've ever driven the new Audi B8 chassis on the track, you'll know what I mean.

Comparing the 335xi will bring you up to 55k with comparable options and you will still have those 18" wheels (instead of Audi's 19s) and will need to get the bodykit after the sale from BMWs service dept to match Audi's S-Line. Audi does bundle their packages more, whereas BMW has most available seperately (+1) but at 55k for a fully optioned 335xi, the S5 is a real bargain and a clear choice IMO.

Default I do agree that the S5 seems to be a better value.

$52k gets you more bang for the buck than $47K for loaded A5. BUT you get more performance at the expense of poor gas mileage. With the 335i you get lower price, better gas mileage, less depreciation and they are available. Not to mention much better lease rates. PLUS , you can chip the car and get even better performance with some drop in fuel economy. IMHO, Audi just doesn't seem to get it. Sorry if this post offends some of the BMW haters. I am an Audi lover looking for another one that I am willing to pay for and I don't see one coming in the near future.

Default Actually it does and hits $51,235.00 w/ comparable add-ons. You have to add the

factory aerodynamic kit on the accessories tab, along with the iPod adapter, Logic 7, NAV, etc.

$51,235.00

Again, talking comparable options to a fully loaded S-Line A5. (Minus the 19" wheels that is not even an available option on the bimmer)

You have to order the bodykit seperately from the BMW service dept unlike Audi with the S-Line package. Base to base, the A5 starts at 39k while the 328xi is at 37k but even though the A5 is slightly more expensive, it's obvious that the A5 wins with the features/specs even in base form.

BMW USA.com - Build your own 328xi

Default and after discounts the bmw ends up being 3-4K cheaper

my whole point is comparing real money, not msrp. the bmw 328xi is gonna be 3-4k cheaper due to discounting and that isn't even after haggling much. A comparably optioned 335xi will be roughly the same price as the A5 after discounts. I don't care msrp to msrp, rather the actual cost to buy either one right now. In a year when the A5/S5 starts getting discounted more, then we have a different story, but in my opinion with the way the market is right now the 335xi is the best deal for the money. Saying the Audi "wins" seems kind of silly when it's a personal preference between the two brands, generally performance vs aesthetics.
