Im planning to get a S5, but I would also love to be using paddle shifts instead of the automatic everytime I drive the car, is that really bad for the gear box? Also if i have drive select and set it to dynamic(i think) does changing gear with the paddle shifts be more responsive and quick?

Tiptronic manual mode shifts are faster than anyone using a manual and I don't need to be a race-track driver to tell. If time was not recorded, the average american wouldn't tell the difference between and S5 auto or manual but the 0.3 recorded makes their brains think is A LOT of time lost! LOL

To me another point to remember is that this .3 second difference between stick and Tip is being measured in flat-out acceleration runs. In normal use, like accelerating on the interstate to pass and going from 65 to 85, I doubt much difference would be noted.

OKOKOKOKOK - I think there are just two kinds of drivers in the universe, and we're dividing into two camps. To the OP, if you're not sure which one you want, just go drive them both and then decide - no opinion on this thread is going to help you make up your mind...

I cry a little inside every time I walk past an A5 (never see any other S5s around here) with an auto. Same goes for corvettes and many other cars!

Get the stick and have some fun ;-)

I guess you are feeling the same thing my grandfather did back in 1960 when he said the same thing about the "wimps" who had ordered power steering on their cars - none of that girly-man stuff for him and his 1960 Chevy Biscayne!
