Looking into this as I would like to change the oil in my 2011 A5 2.0 more than every 10k miles as I drive a lot of short distance trips (I live about 1 mile from work). Just seems like it would be a whole lot easier then getting underneath & taking the engine guard off, etc. Any comments are welcome.

I have used a Griot's Garage top side oil extractor for 7-8 years on all my cars, including my 2003 A4 1.8T. It works very well.
I did not like the 10,000 mile interval either and change it every 5,000 using synthetic. I have 150,000+ miles on the 1.8T and it uses minimal oil between changes (1/2 quart).
I have not used it on my S5 because I only got the S5 3 months ago.

The quantity of new oil I add seems to be very close to the oil capacity stated in the owner's manual (for all of my cars).
So I would say the extractor does the job. If there is a slight bit of oil left, it is surely more than mitigated by the fact that you changed the oil and the filter sooner than recommended.
