Hey guys , Just read the lattest test results from car and driver and all the other euro mags and you will see that the 4.2 in the S5 is quicker 4.8 sec to 60 apposed to 5.2 the 3.0T gets ,So there you have it, as for the tuning aspect, ya the 3.2 may be cheaper to tune, but the 4.2 with the supercharger, to come soon from aps, will make that argument mute, Ohh ya and the sound? no contest!!

yes it is better than the outgoing motor in the "S4" but in comparison to the S5 it loses!! S4 engine S5 4.2 are not the same.See you on the road to prove it to you!!

Yes...the C&D tested time is quicker then Audi's published time with the 3.0T...however what is Audi's published time for the S5. Point is, C&D will improve on the 5.2 Audi claims also...and I would expect it to be on par or slightly better then the 4.2.
As for the turning aspect, yes the 4.2 can get a SC...and the 3.0T can get a set of pulleys, ECU flash and exhaust also and easily be over 400HP for FAR less money....
Further, the 3.0T will be lighter, handle better...both of those points you did not acknowledge...nor did you mention the lower cost either nor MPG.
All you did was post the 4.2's side of two sided arguments. Above are the 3.0T's responces...and they would trump the 4.2 in literally every way....but exhaust.
Bottom line, if this was a poker match the 3.0T would have a full house to the 4.2's pair....
But even then the 4.2 has a draw I agree...hence my post.

I love the 4.2. It sounds great. It has great tractability. Never before have I driven a sub 400 hp car that passes so well in 6th gear. It's way better in sixth gear than the current 997S with a manual. The S5 with the 4.2 may not be the fastest car in a straight line. It is definitely not a track car although it is fun to drive on the track (day at Infineon). But for a day to day car it is sublime.

That alone makes me happy, the car purrs!!!! Putting a panzy a$$ 6 cylinder in a GT-car is just not right! A gt car deserves a right proper v8. Ask James Bond and Aston Martin!

I LOVE the sound of the V8 with its smooth power delivery. It's almost erotic...
...but...
Unless you're looking at an RS5, the S5 3.0T makes so much more sense in every way than the S5 4.2 minus sound. Power on the V6 comes sooner and stays flatter than the V8. Even though the 4.2 technically has a bit more HP, it gets there at the very top end of the power band. For 95% of the rev range the V6T has it beat. And on the torque side the V6 pulls much more than the V8. On top of all that the V6 lightens up the crucial front end of the car for better weight balance.
I know character has a lot to do with a car, and the S5 4.2 captures the muscular GT ideal beautifully. But that's not the only way to think of the S5. The whole V8 GT concept is a bit of an American fetish best suited for more blunt instruments like the Mustang. I think the S5 can also be seen as a sharper, lighter, quicker, basically more German version of the GT, hence being powered by a lighter but more powerful V6.
Finally the S4 3.0T is fairing much better on the track against the 335i then the S5 4.2.
So I'd say choose the superior performance of the Super 6 and accept that it doesn't burble as deeply as the V8. And make sure to tick the Drive Select and Sport Differential boxes when you place your order.
