Pretty good, I would say. On my second S4 now
My 01 S4 Avant was plagued by poor service advising for the first two years of its life. Otherwise, it was a daily driver in a town that was 2 hours from the nearest Audi dealer. Owning one in rural Alabama was a leap of faith. Had to have the CD player replaced twice, headlight washer pump once, and rear main seal service over 5 years of ownership.
None of the issues caused a breakdown on the road, and the car logged road trips to Indy, Nashville, Orlando and multiple trips to Atlanta and New Orleans. Have since moved, and moved on to another S4. Would do it again, and stay in the same brand.

Like any German car; as long as you take care of it/maintain it, it will be ok. BUT....
Overall, I am pretty happy with Audi's reliability. They are not Hondas/Toyotas, but they are ok. My wife had a '99 BMW 318, and we sold it after a year because it was in the shop so much. We figured it was better to sell while still new/under warranty.
But then I have met many folks who have had lemon Audis as well.
My B5 I bought new in '00, and I am at 100K as of next month, and I haven't had any major problems, and it has been great. But then I have obsessed about maintenance and have really taken care of it.
My 2003 A4 has been reliable, but at 50K we are selling it right now (maybe to make room for an A5!).
Audis don't break down much, but I am really pissed about what they charge for parts. Look at my B5: the info display in the cluster started going out at 45K miles. Replaced under warranty, and I am sure it will start going out soon. Audi is going to screw me for $600 for a REBUILT cluster. Major design flaw that I am stuck with.

I have had over two dozen Audis, my first a 1978 5000S, my current a 2005 A6 3.2.
While still "just my experiences," I find them wonderful driver's cars, well made and reliable.
However, I have NEVER had one out of warranty.
The most miles ever: 49,500.
I cannot, therefore, comment personally about their durability.
The current Audis, however, do seem to be able to feel as new well into their 40's (40,000 miles that is.)

I only have 600 miles on the RS4 and like I said aggressive within Audi limits so best not to
comment on gas mileage right now but actually considering the performance its not as bad as I thought it would be.

On my 4th now... very reliable, even when modded somewhat...
to double the factory HP ratings. Ordered this car, will be 7yrs old this November. The S5 is being positioned as a possible replacement... hope its good out of the box =-)

A little finiky at times on the electronics but... pretty darn bulletproof.

I drive 40k miles every year, I've had three A6's in 11 years time..
My first was a 96 A6, it had minor steering rack issues after 110k miles, then I got a 00 A6, it only had one problem and that was that the aircon was working to good and froze the lines which resulted in no cold air..
My current A6 is a 04 A6, this is my first automatic, it has the multitronic gearbox which gave my a few problems.
All repaired on Audi´s expenses ofcourse.
All of these problems above I consider normal since I drive a lot of miles..
The 05 A2 is a garage queen and has only driven 20k miles, it had a faulty brake sensor once, 3 min fix...
Here in Europe Audi is consider very reliable and currently rated above Mercedes and BMW.
I would not hesitate one second about reliability when buying a new Audi.
