Default Automatic rain sensor malfunction error

Turned my car on today and was greeted with a Automatic Rain Sensor Malfunction error see owners manual. The wipers are working perfectly and nothing in manual. The Audi is a 2019 A5 coupe. Anybody have any ideas?

Scan for DTCs with VCDS or such, see what the car is actually saying behind the generic text message.

Default Error code

Ok I got error code B136604. When I look at the sensor it looks like the clear plastic has bubbled up a bit.

Those rain sensors are not cheap. I think I better start searching for 1 online someplace.

That sensor seems to also control the auto turn on lights when it gets dark.

Has your windshield ever been replaced? The gel pad between the sensor and windshield must be replaced. Generic gel packs don’t always work and the OEM is pricey. A5 S5 uses the round one as I recall. I had to replace the sensor AND the pad after a windshield guy damaged the sensor replacing the windshield.

Yes, the RLS is the "rain / light sensor". It provides the data used for the Auto setting of the headlights, as well as the rain sensitive intermittent wipers.

You see the sandwich is the mount 9, built into the glass, then the gel foil 13, then the sensor 12, then the retaining clip 14. So if your sensor is fine, it could be you just need to dismount it and renew the gel foil. Or you might have some other issue. Note, the RLS has its own fuse, fuse 12 in column "2" under the dead pedal.

Also, an MY19 A5 is a B9 vehicle, not a B8 vehicle. So this forum in the future: https://www.audiworld.com/forums/aud...cabrio-b9-220/

I bought the car used and have no idea if the windshield has been replaced.
