Default B8 Interior question - what are the slots to the right of the gear shift for?

Are they card slots for parking cards, lot tickets, etc or are they something else?

AFAIK, no one has provided a definitive answer.

Coin holder. Weak right? The coins just sorta stand in it. Some American makes have it also.

Default A dealer told me it is indeed a coin holder.

I was wondering if it had to do with being able to use the same center console plastic covers for both left and right hand drive cars (the coin holder is in the same place as the parking brake on the other side), but I doubt it... since there are other elements that need changing place too, so the covers aren't interchangeable as far as I can see.

Maybe the interior designer just wanted symmetry with the parking brake and put "something" there?

Default My guess is it is a temp. sensor for the climate control.

B6 and B7 models used to have a slot at the middle/bottom of the climate control unit which was an internal temperature sensor to help control the AC. I am guessing this is the same. It would make no sense to be a coin holder since it is very small and very visible. Also, if it were just a coin holder, why would the slots be open with a foam pad beneath them. If it's a coin holder, it would have been solid.

Default Yeah cause its so hard to recognize a coin holder. I have another tip for you, that big round thing

attached to the dash is the steering wheel. But if you are in doubt, ask audi engineers, it may be a hula hoop! You never know what audi engineers are thinking when they build such mysterious parts.
